First TC-SRVR Project

The first project for TC-SRVR will be a COBOL based implementation of the classic BSD fortune program.

Why COBOL? Because why not. Sure COBOL isn't the newest or most exciting language around, but it is a reliable bread and butter language. according to a 2024 Planet Mainframe article there is about 250 to 800 million lines of cobol code in production. While there is a push to modernize COBOL systems, there is still a need for people who understand the language.

Why the BSD fortune program? Well more specifically fortune-mod found here on git hub. because on the surface fortune appears to be a relatively simple program that displays a random set of records to the terminal. However, there is enough in the various features of fortune to be good practice with COBOL.
